Elka, Tula, Kizi, Jozi and Lexi on a Rainy Boxing Day 2003!
Pictured here when she was 3 years old, with puppy daughter Tula.
My first home bred girl. A total foil to her mother, no illusions of Grandeur. When young she was a happy and mischievous pup, but hated anyone to be cross. As an adult she was the sort who loved to be cuddled, but had learnt after having to put up with her granddaughter , that it paid to stick up for yourself.
She had 3 litters of puppies, and has Champion children in Poland and Australia, and a son in the UK with 2 CC’s. She adored puppies and had always been the one to play with any pups no matter whose they were.
She died on 12/1/2006 as she had lived quietly not drawing any attention to herself, slipping away without anyone realising. It was a terrible shock as she had been in tip top health and had enjoyed an energetic romp in the Park only hours earlier.
This photo shows her sunny character.
Here she is on the left with her Great Granddaughter Lexi.
Left: with her first litter, a very proud ‘Super Mum’ of Nine!
Right: Pictured with her last litter to Sir K (The ‘J Litter) May 2004
Left: at 3 months, and below with her first litter, showing clearly that superior air, that has made her the Queen among her canine family
Above: Typical of Jozi trying to convince everyone she is a lapdog, despite barely fitting!
Jozi can be best described by words starting with ‘B’. The most polite ones would be Brash, Bold, and Beautiful.
Having been sold as a pup, and coming back as an unruly adolescent of 8 1/2 months she does have that “why should I” attitude, which has made training a challenge. She is extremely loving and affectionate, and that streak of naughtiness makes her all the more appealing, and gives her that “look at me” air in the show ring! I am proud of her achieving her UK title,
She finally produced a litter, from which we kept a daughter, Lexi!
I hope that some of the pups from the repeat of this combination of Jozi and Sir K born July 2005, will do well in the show rings in USA, Holland and Ireland as well as here in the UK.
Left: The day after she came back to live with us, imperiously barking at something. Thankfully her manners have improved!!!
This lovely boy lives with one of his other owners, but has a special corner of my heart. I visited him several times each week throughout his stay in Quarantine, and admit to finding it very hard once he went to live with his Missus, Treena, as this meant I would only get to see him at shows.
He always has a special welcome for me whenever I see him, and now of course I have his and Jozi’s daughter Lexi.
He is producing lovely puppies, the first of which are already doing well at shows, winning Best Puppy In Show awards, Puppy Groups, adult Group placing's, Best Puppy in Breed awards, also CC’s and RCC’s at Championship shows. His first Grandchildren were born in 2005. His first UK Champions were crowned in 2006, and he also has a champion daughter in Australia, who produced a litter in 2006. Late 2006 he became a Great Grandfather.

Doing what Elkhounds do best!

Couch Potatoes!
Kizi, Tula, Jozi, Lexi and Elka Feb ‘05 .
She was my first Elkhound and I brought her home at 11 1/2 weeks, when I had sadly just lost my first dog of another breed.
An independent character who liked to pretend that she was above all that mushy stuff, but complained bitterly when the younger ones crowded visitors, or got attention first. She abdicated her position as Queen of the Household to her Granddaughter, and was quite happy without the responsibility, but still had the respect of the others.
She was my foundation bitch, and had two litters of puppies. On the 1st of November 2005 to preserve her dignity and avoid suffering we had to let her go to ‘The Rainbow Bridge’.
Kizi is the second generation bred at Barbelka, and right from the off she acted as if she was special. She is a lively affectionate and co-operative girl, but among others of her own kind expects the respect she feels is her due, and is the Queen of my girls, having quietly deposed her Grandmother.
She has had three litters, and in her first produced a Champion daughter, Jozi.
Here she is at nearly 8 weeks old ‘Mooching’ with her Great Great Grandmother Elka.
Lexi and her Mum winning Hound Group Brace at Brirmingham National Championship show May 2004
Well what about little Lexi. An enchanting, and very bright puppy, that took all things new in her stride.
A lot like her Mum and quite a bit like her Grandmother Kizi with an air of being ‘special’. I can see a lot of her Dad in her too.
She showed lots of promise and all I could do was hope she fulfilled it. She was a trooper traveling to Ireland for her very first show at 6 months, then at her first UK show she was Reserve Best Puppy in show. She won 16 out of 20 breed classes at Championship shows in 2004 and finished the year with her Junior Warrant and a RCC, having also won Puppy Stakes at one and a Puppy Group place at another on the way.
In 2005 she continued her winning record and won another RCC and then 2 CCs. In May 2006 she gained her 3rd and crowning CC to make her a champion!
She produced the next generation for Barbelka (The ‘M’ Litter) at the end of 2006 from her foreign liaison with a Norwegian dog living in Finland, where we journeyed in October. She took the four plane journeys in her stride, making herself quite at home with her beau in the snow.
One of the cute little girls will be staying to keep the others company, bringing us up to four generations living here, and the sixth generation since Elka. .

What’s that over there??? June 2006
